3. Minutes of meeting 24 August – agreed as a correct record
4. Matters arising
a) Borrowing Memory boxes from Bradford Library – in abeyance. Susan reminded us that Paula Truman has seen the boxes and she had suggested that we may like to make our own in the future.
b) Nomination (by Paula Truman) for Burley to be considered for an Alzheimer’s Society award as a Dementia Friendly Community. This has been accepted and we are one of three finalists for the Alzheimer’s Dementia Friendly Award. We were the only one in the Bradford area to be accepted. The award ceremony is in London on Wednesday 29th November. There will be a champagne reception followed by lunch. We can send two representatives and it was suggested that Susan and Sylvia or Niccola be the ones to go. This is great news for BDAG and we want to record our appreciation and thanks to Paula.5. Report of Events and Visits since last meeting
5. Information Sessions
There were two sessions on 21st and 24 August as part of the Burley Festival, when around 16 people attended. The Duke of Edinburgh Group is interested in having a session. Approximately 250 adults and children have attended the sessions to date. It was agreed that we will now only provide sessions on request. Action: Dementia Champions to record contact details of those attending.
b) Memory TreeFeedback – It was felt that people were beginning to settle into the Activity Group and that the Carers sessions were valued by those attending. The numbers are steady at about 14 people plus volunteers and it was felt that this was about right.
6. Julie Page Community Matron for Ilkley and Burley
Julie has worked in Burley for about 7 years and provides a service for adults from the age of 18. She has various roles which include receiving referrals from the GP and then signposting people to services and support. She provides a one off assessment for relative and carers to see what information and support they may need. (Nursing needs not a requirement.) She arranges crisis management for people in the community to help prevent hospital admissions; acute illness management and can put in place a reactive care plan. She also does advanced care planning. We felt that Julie would be in a good position to make referrals to The Memory Tree. Referral guidelines already provided to GPS and Judith, Pharmacy manager. Action: Susan to send electronic copy for Niccola to post on our website. Niccola to make copies of various information leaflets detailing the different types of community support available.
