Minutes of meeting held on 22 March 2018
1. Present: Quentin (Chair), Eileen, Susan (Secretary), Niccola (Treasurer), Mary (Minutes), Gerry
2. Apologies: Norah, Lynne, Val and Ken

4. Matters Arising: Reminder to Niccola to put minutes on the website
5. Reports of Events and Visits since last meeting
(a) The Memory Tree @Burley
i. Feedback from recent sessions: It seems to be going well. Bob has confirmed that he will come for as long as we want him to.
ii. Numbers of individuals and couples attending: There were 16 attended at a January meeting. The 1 March meeting was cancelled due to bad weather and 7 attended the last meeting.
iii. Plans for future sessions: Quentin said that the Carers group was invaluable. Sarah Wademan from Carers Resource came to the last session. Niccola has approached other organisations for speakers and will contact AgeUK.
iv. Finance: Joyce and Peter Cresswell have given a generous donation of £2,000 for the Memory Tree project. Susan will invite them to a session of the Memory Tree to formally thank them.
v. Review of sessions: Elizabeth has suggested that we do a review of the sessions and ask participants and volunteers to feedback their views and offer suggestions for the future. Suggested date is 24 May during Dementia Action Week.
(b) Library volunteers’ information session 21/2 with Paula
This went very well. The Library Dementia Action Plan is up and running.
(c) NHS Dementia showcase event 31st January
Lynne and Niccola went to this interesting event which included a Community Dentistry presentation. Bradford & District Care Trust Library have lots of Resource boxes available to borrow.
Ken Romarno does Tea Dances for couples and would be happy to do one for people with Dementia and their carers.
There are Forget Me Not folders available for carers to give to people who are coming into their homes so that they know a bit about the person they are looking after.
Bradford and Leeds Trusts have signed up to “John’s Campaign” and it is understood that Airedale Trust has also done so. Susan to check. This is to allow carers to stay longer after visiting times and to stay overnight in hospital if they wish.
6. Forthcoming Events and Dates
a) DoE youth information Sessions 16th & 23rd April
They would like sessions for their Silver and Bronze stages. However, it is not clear if Paula will be able to do these. If she is unable to then Susan will ask Jean Smith and Alison Eagle if they would be willing. They are both Dementia Champions. It was agreed that the trainer should be experienced and confident in working with
teenagers.
b) Silsden invitation for 24th March 10-12
They are launching their Dementia initiative on that date and have invited us to attend.
c) AGM
This will be held at the beginning of the next meetingon 26 April. The Constitution states that 5 members must attend for it to be quorate.
Quentin (Chair) will present the Annual Review and Niccola (Treasurer) will present the Annual Accounts.
A report will be sent to the Ilkley Gazette after the meeting.
NB: It has been decided to postpone the AGM since this meeting.
d) Coffee morning 11th August
Details of this fundraising event will be discussed at the next meeting.
7. Implementation of Action Plan
a) Quentin will present the review of work of BDAG 2015-2017 at the AGM
8. Treasurer’s Report
a) Donation: Wendy Kershaw’s father, George Hodgson, has made a donation of £100 from the funeral for his wife.
b) Preparation of annual accounts and audit: Niccola will prepare the accounts and Duncan Ault will audit them.
c) Other bank signatories: Currently these are Susan and Niccola. Quentin will be the third one when all the paperwork has been completed.
9. Correspondence and Publicity
a) Plaques national award: These have been given to the GP surgery and Parish Centre. Susan will laminate additional A4 posters to go up at various locations around the village.
b) Memory Tree poster: Niccola has distributed this new poster to lots of places in the village. Susan will distribute to remaining locations and send Niccola a PDF version to go on the website.
c) Open Door Party: This is on Wed 28 March 2-4pm. Invitation will be put on Facebook by Niccola.
d) Showing of “Still Alice” film: Dot has the DVD and has offered to put on a showing in her home for people from the Memory Tree if they would like to see it.
10. Any Other Business
a) Greg Learmonth art class offer:
Greg has offered to come to a session of the Memory Tree with one or two other people and do a painting workshop if people are interested. There would be a small charge to us for materials. It was agreed that this would be brought up at the next session (5th April) and people would be asked if/what they would like to do.
b) Pharmacy contact to revive: Susan will speak to Judith about reviving this useful contact.
c) Data protection new rules: Susan will talk to a friend who works in data protection and take his advice to make sure we comply with the new rules.
d) Minute taker: Mary has agreed to take the minutes.
