2. Matters arising:
3. Reports of events and visits since last meeting
a) The Memory Treei) Review from recent sessions: An average of 17 people are attending which is about right for the space available. The December and January meetings were all well received. Thanks were extended to Greg Learmonth for the art workshop. Quentin reported that one of our members had expressed reservations about having quizzes at The Memory Tree. It was agreed that we should ask other people in the group and assess the majority view. It was agreed that a few Memory Bags might prompt reminiscence during the first part of the session. Susan to provide fabric, Val and Ann to make the bags. There was an inquiry from someone about her mother attending on her own. She lives in Ilkley and it was decided to suggest she links in to the Clark Foley centre. Susan will contact the daughter. Owing to limited space, it was agreed to restrict participants to those living in Burley ii) Invitations to attend the Carers’ sessions: Joanne Caine from the Community Hub at Abbeyfield, Ilkley is coming to talk to the carers about launching a Companion/Outreach service. Niccola to follow up other invitations, though Julie Duerden no longer available.
ii) Christmas party: Thanks were extended to Burley Nursery School and Irene and Paul Fowler for entertaining us at our Christmas party which was very enjoyable.
iii) Transport options: The couple in question have moved out of the area. Susan has investigated ‘Driving Miss Daisy’ service. The drivers are all either Dementia Friends or Champions. The person using the service would always get the same driver. They can be quite expensive. If people would like more information, the contact is: Martin on: 07977065316.
iv) Outings: These were all very enjoyable.
b) Safeguarding meeting – 3 December. This was a helpful session. Several Memory Tree volunteers attended.
c) Dementia Friendly Baildon meeting – 8 January. Susan gave a presentation about BDAG.
d) DF Communities cluster meeting – 23 January. Julie Duerden, our Dementia Friendly Communities Coordinator has left. Funding from Bradford Council for this post runs until June, with no guarantees that it will continue. Jackie aware and will try to influence a positive decision. Maria Florez the Alzheimer Society’s Dementia Friendly Communities Officer for Yorkshire and Humberside is the temporary contact. As requested, Susan has provided her with a report of our plans for the next three months. A steering group is being set up to for a Dementia Action Alliance for Bradford. The Keighley DF pack for Businesses and Communities is now done but has been copyrighted, so other groups cannot use it directly but can refer to the content on their website. https://dementiafriendlykeighley.org.uk Sandra Kelly of DF Keighley is leaving. The Alzheimer’s Society has developed various guide books https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/get-involved/dementia-friendly-communities/making-organisations-dementia-friendly/businesses but does not have a national pack with action templates as they say these need to be tailored to local needs. - Banner/T-shirts: this is ongoing
- BDAG website: Niccola will update when she returns, to include recent events and outings.
- GP website: Their action plan is on the Leeds Dementia Action Alliance website, not Bradford’s. Susan will inform Niccola and ask her to put it on our website. Susan will also ask Niccola to ask the GPs if they will mention us on their website and put a link to us on it.
- Pharmacy: Susan has spoken to Lydia who says that the leaflets are going in younger people’s prescriptions in case they know of someone who might benefit from the Memory Tree. She will take some more leaflets down soon.
