Burley-in-Wharfedale Dementia Action Group (BDAG) - Action Plan 2019:
Our group will:
1) Raise awareness and understanding of dementia locally
2) Work towards Burley-in-Wharfedale becoming a dementia friendly village
3) Support people with dementia and their carers
4) Improve local partnership working
Burley-in-Wharfedale Dementia Action Group (BDAG) - Action Plan 2019:
Our group will:
1) Raise awareness and understanding of dementia locally
- Run Dementia Friends public information sessions as required, encouraging more people to become Dementia Champions. This will be supplemented by communicating through open events, coffee mornings, website and Facebook
- Seek to run Dementia Friends sessions for young people’s groups, local organisations and businesses, with subsequent support to write a dementia action plan and display a “Working to become Dementia Friendly” sticker
- Encourage suitable organisations and businesses to stock dementia booklets and other relevant information and leaflets
- Supplement BDAG’s publicity resources as appropriate
2) Work towards Burley-in-Wharfedale becoming a dementia friendly village
- Encourage local businesses and organisations to achieve the Burley Dementia Friendly Recognition Award
- Review the signposting information sheet, and check for accuracy to promote relevant activities and services
- Promote the new Wellbeing Directory, participate in the wellbeing initiatives with the Burley Community Leaders group and Well Wharfedale
3) Support people with dementia and their carers
- Continue to deliver the work started in 2017 which has resulted in the formation of ‘The Memory Tree at Burley’ and its two sessions each month supplemented by occasional trips out
- Continue to raise awareness of the Alzheimer’s Society, Age UK and other local groups and their resources
- Continue to raise awareness of Carers’ Resource and other organisations that can help carers with areas such as benefits, carer emergency plans, advice work and befriending
- Publicise existing dementia friendly groups and activities in Burley-in-Wharfedale and surrounding area, explaining the nature of the groups, activities and support offered, including transport options
4) Improve local partnership working
- Continue to work with the local GP surgery, the community matron, the social prescriber and the patient participation group
- Continue to work with the Parish Council, the library, the Parish Centre, Open Door and other public services
- Continue to develop relationships with Burley Hall, Hanover sheltered housing scheme and the Pharmacy
- Continue to expand inter-generational opportunities by working with Burley Nursery School
- Build links with Menston, Ilkley, Addingham and other dementia friendly communities in the Wharfe Valley
- Encourage more people to volunteer with The Memory Tree and to join the Action Group
